The Ankh frequently appears on Egyptian tomb paintings and other forms of art like the fingertips of a god or goddess in images that represent the gods of the afterlife bestowing the gift of life on the dead. An Ankh was often carried by Egyptians as an amulet.  It has been suggested that it combines the male and female symbols of Osiris (the cross) and Isis (the oval) and therefore signifies the union of heaven and earth. The Ankh is considered a modern day symbol of wholeness & health.
